Pagmamano
Pagmamano is a "honouring-gesture" that is used in Filipino culture to show respect for elders and to ask for their blessing. The greeter bows toward the elder's hand and places their forehead against it, much like when they give a greeting.
The significance of pagmamano stems from the Filipino custom of honoring elders. It is believed that this is a pro-Filipino tradition that ought to be upheld.
Prayer before eating
A grace is a short prayer or thankful phrase said before or after eating. The term most commonly refers to Christian traditions. Some traditions hold that grace and thanksgiving imparts a blessing which sanctifies the meal. In English, reciting such a prayer is sometimes referred to as "saying grace".
For me praying before we eat is a healthy spiritual practice. It’s good for us. And as a result, it is something that we should carefully and faithfully do.
Kamayan/boodle fight
Kamayan also talks about the customary family dinners and communal feasts, where rice and other vibrant dishes are arranged on banana leaves and shared by all. The practice was tolerated during the Spanish period but suppressed during the American colonial period when American dining etiquette and the use of spoons and forks were aggressively promoted. The banana leaves are washed, slightly wilted over open flames to bring out an oily sheen, and then laid out on a long table.
The 1980s and 1990s saw the rise in popularity of kamayan as a means of honoring Filipino culture; this is evidenced by the widespread appeal of the upmarket restaurant chain "Kamayan."
Eating this way is very celebratory and sociable. and as a way to preserve their cultural legacy, we still carry out this tradition in our barrio. We enjoy the freedom to eat with our hands while sharing meals at the table with friends and family, and we can't help but notice the happiness that comes with this practice.
Pinakbet Festival
A yearly celebration of Pagay Festival (Palay Festival) held every April 23. Roxas celebrates this festival annually to boost tourism for the town and to highlight the vegetables grown and included in the famous viand. The Pinakbet Festival features street dances, foodfests and cooking competitions. Figuratively, the Pinakbet Festival was a healthy competition as it showed sportsmanship, competency and good work ethics.
Bayanihan
The "bayanihan" is a part of our culture that can be said to be old-fashioned or traditional, because of the time it began. The concept of bayayanihan is the joint cooperation of neighbors or neighbors in moving and usually moving a house, which was a hut made of nipa and other light materials, by their colleague to a new place. This tradition reflects the bonding and peaceful coexistence and support system in a community. Filipinos are naturally helpful and considerate of others, which strengthens the idealistic way of life. Just as the covid 19 pandemic passed, everyone helped here in our barangay, by providing food, and necessities in the middle of the pandemic.
