Over time, I have started to move more and more towards digital art, as there are more tools that allow me to be as detailed as I like. While I will likely always prefer pencil and paper above all else, digital is a close second. Some of my favorite pieces have been created simply on my phone using a stylus. As I've become more comfortable using this medium, I've seen my skill in texturing and lighting significanly improve.
Below is a variety of subjects, ranging from comic book characters, to dragons, as well as other creatures and a few of my own characters.
The red dragon bust was made in MS Paint (not my usual medium)
This piece was apart of an assignment in college, where I took inspiration from an artist I enjoyed, as well as an album cover from a song. Combining art from Essi Välimäki (@susitse.art on Instagram) and the single "Desperate Measures" by Broken at Best, with the song title "Fool's Gold" I created this. I took the color pallet from the album cover and the typical wolf subject from Välimäki holding a glowing glass ball covered in cracks. This is in reference to these song lyrics;
"Said I was gifted
I guess that I broke it"
The lyrics describe being seen as the "gifted" kid both in school and in regular life, being told you have so much potential and will do great things. However now all that is felt is disappointment and exhaustion, covered with the confusion of why things turned out this way. It was a therapeutic exercise, and I experimented with coloring and lighting in order to achieve the glowing effect, as well as drawing the color gold which is deceptively difficult.
