Located in the heart of South Central Kentucky, Barren County is about halfway between Louisville and Nashville just off 1-65 and Louis B. Nunn Parkway.

Barren County School District currently serves approximately 5,300 students in preschool through 12th grade. The district is comprised of ten schools with seven elementaries, one middle school, one high school with a freshman academy, and one alternative learning center. We are also home to the Barren County Innovation Zone and the Barren County Area Technical Center, a regional facility, located on our high school campus.

From preschool to post-secondary, Barren County Schools offers a pipeline of success by providing options for each student. Whether through rigorous academics and Magnet school programs or accelerated classroom spaces, Barren County works to challenge students academically in a variety of ways.  With close to 40 career pathways, BC students are prepared for transition to work or post-secondary education.  Fine arts, student organizations and athletic programs ensure that students are life-ready as they develop soft-skills needed to succeed in both personal and professional relationships.

Compared to other schools in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, we are above state averages in several areas.  Our elementary schools exceed state averages for separate academics, growth, and proficiency.  Our middle school exceeds the state average for academic proficiency, and our high school is above the state average for transition readiness and graduation rate.

A Trojan:

By providing strong academic foundations in our Barren County schools, students can find opportunities in over 40 career pathways to become successful in the new economy.

With the intention of preparing our students for the future, we have worked to create a Profile of a Trojan, which is an outline for what industry is looking for in future employees and the expectations BC Schools hope to instill in all students and staff.

From Pre-School to Post-Secondary we seek to provide an experience for our students that makes them the utmost prepared to be the leaders of our future. While we will always maintain an emphasis in academic success, we are also placing an emphasis on teaching skills that will promote lifetime success for our students.

Superintendent's Message

Bo Matthews

The Barren County School District is an innovative district of approximately 5300 students ranging from Pre-School thru the 12th grade.  Our district works daily to meet the individual needs of our students with assistance from approximately 1000 caring adults.  Once again our district has been designated as a “Proficient” school district according to measures by the Kentucky Department of Education.  Each of our 10 schools in the Barren County School System has seen consistent academic gains on State and Federal Assessments.  While we are extremely proud of that, we pledge to work together to find new pathways to guarantee student success inside and out of the classroom.  We are confident you will be impressed with the facilities we have that offer outstanding safe learning environments and outstanding extra-curricular venues for our student athletes.  Feel free to contact any of our building administrators to learn more about the Barren County School System or you may reach me at the Barren County Board of Education.  We look forward to working with you to find success for all of our students.
