Ahhh…Battle! That is definitely one of the greatest joys in life. Feeling the purpose of the axe swing, the feel of the weapon in your hands and the adrenaline singing in your veins. There is a clarity to fighting, a simpleness of purpose that is freeing and joyful.
Presenting: A moment in the life of a battle from a short dwarf's point of view.
The wind rushed by her as she ran to face her foe. She had plenty of time to narrow in on her target.
"Why don't they ever run towards me? That would make things so much easier!" she thought as she ran across the field of engagement. "Maybe I should just throw it? No - wait till you get there, it is more fun that way. I am going to need quite the mug of ale after this. Maybe if I jump up and down he will notice me and decide to come this way. I know - a battle cry - that will make him notice. NEVER SURRENDER! Hah! He looked!"
Just then the head that turned to look at her flew from its shoulders in a whirl of blue and white. "Oh no! Damn! Damn! I need a spit gun with a marker in it so she knows which one is mine! SAVE SOME FOR ME!" she finally shouts - her true battle cry.
"OK - new target. Oh, there - over in that corner, a bit away from battle. At least he is not farther away. Geez! Ok, don't die before I get there - just stay quiet and no heroics! I am almost there! No! Don't move - just stand there! Argh! Suicidal maniac running into the fray! Now I have to chase you! You just wait till I get there! You just wait!"
The scene becomes quiet as the last of the foes falls defeated. She grinds to a halt and collapses against a rock! Phew! "Well - that was quite the battle. At least I am the closest to camp."
Hefting her still gleaming axe over her shoulder she whistles and turns towards camp thinking of the cold ale to welcome her back from her dangerous exploits!
