You might be trying many strategies attempting to calm your mind, relax your body, or think positive thoughts. Do you judge yourself for experiencing stress, anxiety, or depression without being able to turn the tide? Does it all seem like really hard work?
I help sensitive people who are grappling with emotional pain and unravel chronic patterns like depression, anxiety, general stress, and stubborn patterns of self-criticism and addiction. Beneath these struggles often lie unexplored layers that are waiting to be known, nurtured, and liberated through our shared conscious attention.
Are you familiar with coping mechanisms like distracting yourself to feel better and pleasing other people while hiding behind a mask? These are all very understandable ways to manage an underlying sense of lack and unsafety. But now it's time to lower the mask and receive the gift of true attention. With an in-depth exploration we go beyond surface strategies and compassionately meet your needs at the root. Receiving directly what no strategy can deliver.
"The path of the energetically sensitive ones is not to become more aware, but to become comfortable with how aware they already are."
- Matt Kahn
Stress & tension in the body
Heavy self-critique
A sense that there is something wrong with them
Pleasing others while hiding behind a mask
Anxiety and restlessness that can't seem to be soothed
Cycles of depression, hopelessness, or isolation
Control strategies that don't seem to work, like; distracting yourself, avoiding your feelings, avoiding others or places, addictions. Even meditation, breathing - and relaxation exercises to 'manage' the discomfort.
"You are what you need."
- Jon Bernie
Distraction
Involves behaviors like overeating, excessive screentime, and overthinking to distract from emotional pain.
Controlling
Doing body-mind exercises to 'make' yourself relax or think more positively. If it helps it's great, but it can be another way to avoid your deeper needs.
Self-blame
Yes, this is a coping strategy too, where you blame yourself for hardship that you couldn't prevent. It is an innocent last resort of the psyche to 'make things better' by demanding more of yourself.
Suppression
This includes holding back your feelings, voice, power, and preferences in favor of a more 'acceptable' version of yourself. Suppressing your authenticity you miss out on the nurture that real contact has to offer.
Almost all clients that I see struggle with an underlying sense that there is something wrong or lacking about them that they need to compensate for. This is a very common illusion held in place by a body and mind that is overwhelmed and under-nurtured. With the deepening of inner clarity, you are meeting yourself through the layers where stories of self-deficiency fall away like waking up out of a bad dream.
When seeing yourself through the lens of the mind you automatically have a reduced sense of self. This is because the mind can only think in terms of labels and fixed objects that don't capture the depth of what you are. When we look at ourselves as this fictitious 'object', no matter how good, bad, or amazing we believe ourselves to be, it will always create a tiring pursuit of self-worth that needs to be earned and maintained. Only when we allow ourselves to sink beyond the stories that our mind has about us does the endless game of comparison, self-doubt, and self-improvement come to an end.
Breathing exercises
Meditation exercises
Rituals and routines
Mental tricks
Substances and foods
Pleasures or distractions
And there is nothing wrong with these ... unless we use these practices against ourselves. We then use even the most beautiful strategies to temporarily 'fix' our state instead as ways to meet those parts that truly need attention.
When you are spinning in cycles of well-meant exercises and self-care routines without an increasing sense of ...
Connectedness
Freedom
Rest
Empowerment
Appreciation of yourself and others
Vitality
.. it could be a sign that you need another approach. One that helps you to let down your long-held armor and stop the endless pursuit of a better you. When you are tired of trying to feel better and it all seems like hard work, it could be that now is the time for your body to be leading the way.
My perspective is that healing is an innate capacity we tap into and not something we can reach through effort or control.
When living through tough situations, without the vital experience of being heard, seen, expressed, and supported we often adopt a survival strategy that tries to protect itself through an agenda of control. We lose touch with our natural emotional, energetic, bodily, and authentic flow and sometimes even believe that we are broken or doing it all wrong.
Assisted by the different somatic modalities that I offer, you are guided to process deeper themes without the need to control or do it right. In-depth inquiries and exercises will help your body tune into the care and freedom that has always been natural to you.
A session usually looks like this:
Orientation:
We start with reflecting on your current situation, how you feel, and what is at play in your life.
Depth work:
Then we take 40-50 minutes to go in-depth and address deeper layers of your experience. We might use 1 or 2 of the modalities to do this depending on what serves you most.
This is the part where energetics might feel quite strong. It is temporary and will subside.
Integration:
Afterwards we take some integration time in the form of rest, mindful presence, and sharing your experience or questions.
There might be suggestions or exercises for at-home.
I offer packages of 5 sessions. This way I can support you through the middle stage of the process (which occurs around session 3) which is usually a deepening and for some slightly more challenging.
Sessions occur every 1-2 weeks
The first session takes 90 minutes and includes a free 30 min intake. The intake is also free in the sense that there are no strings attached. After the intake, you can still freely decide to continue the session or take more time to think about it.
The other sessions take 60-75 mins
You may also book a free 15-minute clarity session to help you decide which path for healing would serve you most. I gladly refer you to other practitioners and healers if that's what your situation calls for. I'll never convince you to work with me and will always support your highest path.

"I was blown away by how much wisdom and self-healing power the body has if you let it do what it needs to do. It always left me going home with clarity, mindfulness, and lightness." - Eva
"With Barbara I always feel like I'm being held in a safe and open space. That allows for some very deep processes, that wouldn't be possible without it. When something is scary to go into I like working with Barbara, because the process feels held in that space." - Anders Lovaas
"I contacted Barbara because I had tried many treatments (operations even) and nothing worked. I really liked the way she approached my problem because she did not try to solve it physically but looked for the underlying cause. I learned a lot and gained awareness about my thoughts and behavior. I no longer suffer from pain, which is such a huge relief." - Sally J.
