A Universal Framework for describing Combinative Reality
Balanced Blended Space (BBS) is a universal framework for describing how communication flows through and between the physical, virtual, and conceptual realities we inhabit. It identifies deep structural symmetries—between cognitive and computational intelligence, physical and virtual space, sensory modalities, mediation pathways, and qualitative distance in space and time—revealing that each domain operates as an isomorphic reflection of the others within a single system.
Building on that framework, the BBS meta-project investigates its validity through several interconnected parts: a syntax that maps mediation pathways across physical, virtual, and conceptual worlds; a test platform—the Blended Reality Performance System (BRPS)—that examines what it means for a blended space to become balanced, where spatial and intelligent forces share symmetrical weight; and a constellation of sub-projects, such as the Blended Shadow Puppet (BSP) initiative, that explore these ideas through creative research and collaborative AI.
Blended Reality Performance System
The Blended Reality Performance System (BRPS) is an experimental platform designed to test the Balanced Blended Space (BBS) framework by integrating physical, virtual, and conceptual elements across various modalities, and working under the premise that AI is an active collaborator alongside human participants.
Our research supports development of the Balanced Blended Space (BBS) framework, focusing on universal syntax, testing this syntax through the development of a Blended Reality Performance System (BRPS), and exploring interdisciplinary meta-projects like Blended Shadow Puppet Theatre. Our central emphasis is on creating blended environments that balance virtual and physical space, as well as computational and cognitive intelligence.
Research Projects may include proof-of-concept experiments that allow participants to push the envelop or develop skills in a risk-tolerant environment before deploying in critical areas such as health or transportation.
