· Embellishing notes are notes outside of the chord which are played between chordal tones to make a melodic or harmonic line more interesting.
· They can be accented or unaccented
o Unaccented (most common): played off the beat
o Accented: played on the beat
Step wise in consecutive direction.
Step wise movement up or down & returns to original note.
Step wise movement up or down & skip (3rd) in the opposite direction to land on a note in the following chord.
A note from the next chord comes in early creating a quick dissonance before resolving on the next beat. (It "anticipates" the next chord).
Same as unaccented however it is on the beat instead of off the beat.
Same as unaccented however it is on the beat instead of off the beat.
Opposite of an anticipation. The original note is sustained so that it resolves into the next chord on the off-beat.
