Use notes from your scale to build chords over your four-bar bass line. Use your model repertoire for inspiration and your instrument to play around with the chords until you’re happy with a progression.
Tips:
- Your bass line is the bass note of your chords and therefore when the note changes, the chord above will change (unless it is an inversion).
- If you wish to use a more theoretical approach to choosing your chords, you can figure out which chords to use by writing out which chords are in your scale. This is achieved by writing the 3rd and 5th scale degree above each note. See Example.
When you're happy with your chords, start to record.
