The Baba-Nyonya Heritage Museum in Malacca was chosen for a tourism economics case study due to its historical significance as a restored Peranakan house showcasing the unique blend of Chinese and Malay cultures of the Baba-Nyonya community. Another unique aspect of the museum is that it served as the shooting location for the popular Singaporean TV series 'Little Nyonya', attracting numerous visitors eager to explore its iconic scenes. Its popularity generates significant economic impact through ticket sales, souvenir purchases, and job creation, supporting local businesses. The museum's sustainability efforts in preserving and promoting cultural heritage ensure future generations can appreciate and benefit from it, highlighting the importance of cultural heritage in driving tourism and contributing to sustainable tourism development.
The Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum is located in Malacca, a World UNESCO Site. The house is a combination of three terrace lots that were acquired by the Chan family in 1861. Four generations lived in the house before it was opened as a museum in March 1985. And until today the museum is still managed by the family.
