Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Malaysia. Heritage tourism often needs to preserve and restore historical sites. In the interview session, one of the workers said that 10 years ago, they changed the roof of the museum, and interior design in museums will be maintained by restoration specialists. The maintenance and preservation of historical buildings and artefact require careful conservation techniques that can have environmental benefits. Using traditional materials and methods can minimize the environmental impact compared to modern construction and renovation techniques. A lot of funding is needed for the conservation project, and the revenue generated by museums can be reinvested into conservation projects.
The museum is essential for preserving and promoting the Baba Nyonya community’s distinct cultural history. This promotes cultural sustainability by preserving traditions, art, and activities that would otherwise be lost. Culture preservation can be promoting through program of educational and cultural activities that will attract various people and increase the number of visitors. For examples, the museum provides educational tours and workshops for visitors of all ages and these programs are designed to provide greater understanding and appreciation of the Peranakan heritage, fostering a sense of pride and identity among the community members. Besides that, the museum plays a role in documenting the oral histories and personal stories of the Peranakan people.
