After-Class Speaking/Journal:

Look at the three school programs listed in the Planning section on page 7 of your K+ Notes textbook. Complete part 1 of the Writing section on page 7 of your K+ Notes textbook to describe which of these programs you believe should be funded--or you can propose you . When you have finished:

Record yourself evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of each program and describing which explain which program you believe deserves funding.

Write a four paragraph letter to the editor of the local newspaper to explain which program you believe deserves funding.

Lesson 2 - Wednesday - Online Learning

Look at the four quotations near the top of page 10 of your K+ Notes textbook. Choose one quotation and record a two- to three-minute response in which you:

Explain what the quotation means.
Explain why you agree or disagree with the quotation.

Teach Something

Instructions: Your task is to teach the rest of the class a life skill. Your presentation should be around 5 minutes long. To begin, create an outlined plan of your presentation including the following elements.

I. Introduction/Skill

Who are you? What are your qualifications? What do you want to teach your audience? Example answer: Hi! My name is... I’ve lived in the U.S. and Korea and know that address systems are different depending on the country. Today I’m going to show you how to read a U.S. street address..

II. Objectives/Reasons

Why should your audience learn this skill? Example answer: You will be able to find your way around and estimated locations and distances without GPS.

III. Materials *

What materials do people need to practice this skill? Example answer: Just an awareness of your basic directions: north, south, east, west.

IV. Procedure

What steps do people have to take to complete this task. Example answer: 1. Notice the direction suffix of your street address. 2. Pay attention to whether it's a street or an avenue. 3...

V. Checking for Understanding

How will you confirm that your audience understands your presentation? Example answer: Ask your audience to estimate the locations of different Seattle addresses.

VI. Final Thought

Provide a glimpse into the audience's future with this skill. Example answer: In any unfamiliar American city, you can be confident that you will find your way around.

Lesson 3 - Thursday - Learning Styles

Learning Objectives

Take a quiz to learn about different learning styles and identify your own learning style. (SI429, V472)
Read a magazine article about learning styles to identify specific information and review collocations. (R409)
Report facts and opinions to expand rules for reported speech. (G445)
Write a short essay to describe a personal learning experience. (W406, W424)

Take this What's Your Learning Style self-assessment. Then write an essay evaluating your results. You can submit your essay in the Google Form below.

Planning and Organization

Organize your summary into at least three paragraphs:

Introductory Paragraph: Describe the basic purpose of the self-assessment, state your result, and state simply whether it was correct about you.
Body Paragraph One: Describe, according to the assessment, whether you are more of a visual, auditory, or tactile (kinesthetic) learner? Define what this learning style means. This is a good chance to use direct quotes and indirect quotes.
Explain, using examples of how you learn in real life, whether you think the learning-style self-assessment is accurate. This is a good chance for you to use this week's vocabulary.
Offer a final thought about the information you've learned from the learning-style self-assessment and what you will do in the future.

Language Targets

Organize your writing into paragraphs with an introduction, body, and a conclusion.
Include at least three direct quotes.
Include at least three examples of reported speech.
Include at least six vocabulary words about school and study from this week's unit (p.23).
