This assignment explores the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in supporting architectural design development through the redesign of my Studio Design 3A project, NEXUS Cultural Centre, located in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur. The original proposal was developed as a cultural centre that aimed to connect the contrasting identities of modern Kuala Lumpur and traditional Kampung Baru through the concept of a "wormhole" that symbolically links two different worlds.
The purpose of this assignment is not to replace the original design, but to critically evaluate it using AI tools and investigate how AI can contribute to design improvement, problem-solving, and decision-making. Through the use of ChatGPT, Gemini, Leonardo AI, Canva AI, and other digital tools, the project was analysed to identify strengths, limitations, and opportunities for enhancement. Particular attention was given to improving circulation, strengthening concept clarity, enhancing user experience, and integrating environmental strategies more effectively.
The redesign process resulted in a revised proposal that organises the project into three experiential levels: Modernity, Connection, and Tradition. The wormhole concept was transformed from a symbolic architectural feature into a functional circulation, environmental, and social connector. Throughout this assignment, AI was used as a design assistant to support analysis, visualisation, and exploration, while professional judgement remained essential in evaluating and refining the final design outcomes.
This report documents the AI workflow, design development process, revised proposal, and critical reflections on the opportunities and limitations of using AI within architectural practice.
