Hopi Tribe
Hopi Tribe
The Hopi Tribe continues to have an interest in the entire state of Arizona. This is based on our clan emergence and migration traditions from Mesoamerica and Mexico into the state. For example, the Snake Clan has strong traditions into Baja, Mexico and see that area as their emergence point to the north. They then followed the Colorado River into the Grand Canyon and beyond. Other clans migrated north near the Bradshaw Mountains, up through the Verde Valley and the San Pedro River and eventually the Hopi Mesas. The Hopi clans were instructed to leave behind physical evidence such as ruins and pottery sherds. - Leigh Kuwanwisiwma, Hopi Cultural Preservation Office
