The 2020s opened with uncertainty, as the pandemic raised the question of whether a National Gathering could happen at all. This section follows the gatherings on either side of the 2022 anniversary: the 2021 gathering near Taos, New Mexico, told day by day by the people who were there; the smaller, more intimate 51st gathering in New Hampshire in 2023; and the 2024 gathering in northern California, which the Forest Service tried to close. The videos show a gathering that is still recognizably itself but newly visible online, attracting first-time visitors, filmmakers and renewed debate over its future and its relationship with public-land agencies.
