Before cheap video cameras and smartphones, few people filmed the gatherings, and many participants actively discouraged it. The films in this section are therefore rare records of the Rainbow Gathering's first three decades. They include a remastered film of the 1978 Oregon gathering, a multi-part series and full documentary of the 1979 Gathering of the Tribes in Arizona, and home movies from the 1980s and 1990s in Idaho, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Colorado and Wyoming. Seen together, they show how the look, size and rituals of the gathering took shape, and how much of what gatherers do today, from the peace ceremony to the circle, was already in place early on.
