My first blog was about my weekend experience at First Ascent, so this is my first blog post at the park of my choosing: Washington Park. My first experience at the park was over the weekend for a nice walk and run. Getting to the park wasn't terrible. It was about a mile walk there and it was cool to be able to explore a different area I haven't been to yet. My first impression was being amazed by the sheer size of the park itself. I knew going into the park that it was large but I didn't expect it to be as large as it is. I also was amazed by the amount of water at the park. I loved being able to walk around not one but two beautiful ponds. I spent about an hour at the park soaking up the sun, good views, and surronding nature.
On my walk and run I came across several interesting environmental pieces. There was gorgeous flowers all along the farthest side of the park from campus. The side walk led me through an area with lots of flowers but the sunflowers stood out the most to me. There were several patches of the flowers and each patch had many bunches of perfectly bloomed sunflowers that caught my eye. As I continued on the path closest to the pond I noticed the abundance of geese surrounding the pond. At first I only saw the two geese I photographed but I soon realized there were tons of geese as I made my way further around the pond. The geese were a nice reminder of home as at my old high school many geese would surround the pond on campus and walk around campus. The last picture I have up is of a gorgeous tree that really caught my attention. My attention was more focused on flowers and bushes but as I started to look up the tree caught my eye. I used a website to identify the tree and it is called a Cotton Wood tree which is very common in Colorado.
I ended up wanting to visit the park yesterday and ventured their with my roommate. I ended up catching a ride in the car with her and it allowed us to spend more time walking around the park. My second time at the park I was able to notice more little details I didn't notice the first time. I noticed how there was a beautiful tower and there were several courts to play sports on. When we went the weather was not very good and gnats where flying around like crazy. As my roommate and I approached the half way mark it started downpouring and we unfortunately had to sprint about a half a mile back to the car. We were both soaking wet by the end and unfortunately had a bad end to our park day but I can't wait to come back on another sunny day!
