For my first blog post I am going to talk about my weekend trip to First Ascent at the Kennedy Mountain Campus. As the bus approached the campus I was immediately stunned by the beautiful mountains surrounding the campus. Everywhere I looked there was a gorgeous view and when we arrived the sun was shinning which was a nice bonus. The campus consisted of several beautiful cabins, a dining hall, a recreation center, several activities, and hiking trails. That night we enjoyed each others company and the beautiful views.
The next morning started with some sun and a nice hike as we waited for the rock climbing activity to start. As some girls and I explored the hiking trails we took in the beautiful trees and cool rocks. We had a really nice hike and even came across several turkey. A group of us girls sat on a rock for about five minutes observing the turkeys enjoying their morning. After our hike we went on another hike but this time to the rock climbing area at the lake. The hike down was pretty uneventful but the trees were super pretty and some were already turning yellow. I was quite excited to see the lake but was kind of disappointed by the size. There wasn't much water and looked more like a pond. The rock climbing was super fun and a nice struggle. I had the opportunity to meet new people and the views from the top of the cliff was insane.
On the way to my next activity which was the Via Ferrata the weather changed fast and started pouring and hailing so we had to take a detour. We hung out and played games for a little bit and then the sun came out and we were able to go. On the Via Ferrata we were clipped into cables and ropes so we were able to climb over the craziest rocks and took in the most insane views of the surrounding mountains. The activity and the views were definitely the highlight of my trip and would love to return to the campus to go camping there.
We ended the night with a session wide bonfire which was a great opportunity to hear about others experiences on the trip. We had smores and took in the cold mountain air. It was a great end to the trip. Overall I would love to return to the mountain campus and would recommend First Ascent to all my friends and peers.
