We were tasked with researching different global communities and learning about their technology usage and culture while also comparing how they access technology.
For this project, we decided to choose Geneva, Switzerland and Moscow, Russia.
An interesting fact I learned about Moscow, Russia while researching for this project is while gathering sources, I learned that a lot of their news sites use geoblocking (restricting foreign ips) to protect against DDoS attacks.
I learned that the most spoken language in Switzerland is French, I'm not sure what I thought they spoke but I wouldn't have guessed French. I had assumed they spoke German.
Me and Paul had split up the work evenly, I worked on Moscow, Russia while he worked on Geneva, Switzerland. When it came time to work on the powerpoint, I had started the first 4 slides using both his research and mine. He finished up the last 4 slides. I learned a lot of information about Moscow doing this assignment, I learned about how restrictive their internet access is and how Putin is pushing for more platform bans. I also learned a few things in word, like how to make the bullet points appear in columns so they can "stack" next to eachother.
