This quiz made me realize I spend a lot of time on social media, and my phone in general I find myself routinely checking on my social media, looking at the notifications. I find "doomscrolling" apps like twitter and tiktok to be the most addictive ones for me.
I want to try reading more and spending less time on my phone in 2026. Even if I spend that time playing games or reading, I think that is better for my mental health than just short term dopamine boosts.
The most interesting statistic I found was the one that demonstrated the percentage of adults in each age group that uses specific apps. It was interesting to learn about which age demographics frequent social media the most.
I think that social media while connecting millions of people across the planet, has had a horrible impact on modern youth. For young girls, social media can be the most upsetting thing... with many girls developing disorders as a result of comparing themselves to edited bodies. In the past, it was majority a thing that impacted girls, but with the rise of "looksmaxing" and other looks focused trends, we're seeing an increase of male insecurity. With the ability to edit, shape, and tone your body online.. social media creates a toxic enviroment for young kids comparing themselves to adults or models. I think we're going to start seeing more people talk about the dangers of social media as Incel culture takes over online spaces.
I learned that I need to stay off social media and to learn to recognize when I'm doomscrolling or distracted over my phone. I think this lesson has opened my eyes to how bad my "addiction" to my phone really is.
