HW 4: using AR Furniture App

App used: iStaging

In this assignment I tried using 2 separate pieces of furniture, a bath tub and a piece of wall art work. When I tried putting the bath tub in a space that would be as big as a bathroom, the 3D render did not fit very well. It was always a bit too big or small. The application gave me the option of repositioning the object however, the biggest annoyance was the height of the object. It was always about 2 feet off of the ground. I don't think that this technology would be very useful in it's present state because the scaling is completely off and the application was a pain to use. Trying to give the app another shot, I was sure that the reason why it was not working very well was because it was a 3D render. I was sure that trying out a 2D render on something as easy as a wall would be a really cool feature to actually use in real life. My experience with putting the fish painting on the wall was unpleasant to say the least. The application could only put the painting somewhere close to the floor because it need to have a horizontal line to match the wall. I tried finding a place on the wall where I could mimic the floor but that only made the painting incredibly small.

Above&Right: You can't really tell in the pictures but the tub was about a foot off the ground.

Right: Surprisingly, the tub fit nicely on the street

Above&Left: I had to step further back just to increase the size of the painting

Left: What I originally saw
