Starting this project, I knew that I wanted to create a space that could temporarily house a single homeless man or woman as they are reintegrated back into society. This structure is intended to be one of multiple within a housing village. The building is fitted only with a bathroom, in this village, food will be eaten in a communal space to create a connected environment between the tenants. The program of the house is as follows: The bottom floor is the main space, the chairs and tables can fold and be hung on the wall to create a larger area within the structure. There is a large cabinet for personal belongings, as well as a closet space near the door. In the main space there are three large wall windows, along with an opening skylight. The bathroom has small windows for natural light that are conveniently placed for privacy. Moving to the loft, there is a ladder with an art piece on the wall behind it inspired by our visit to the homeless village in Seattle that we visited for research. The program of the loft is as follows: The loft contains a bed and lounging bean bag chair. There is a window looking down toward the entrance to check when someone is at the porch. The loft area has a small fence to prevent rolling off when sleeping. The roof is expandable like that of a classic VW Bus, the intention is to raise the roof in the daytime to create a lounging space. The accordion walls of the expanding roof are semi transparent to allow light to permeate in. Once asleep, the roof is to be lowered to close the light out and create an enclosed sleeping space. That is the functions of the house.
The goal for this project was to pick a common route that you took and to study it. eventually we each made a film about the root.
Graffiti Through the ages was a final project for my freshman curatorial class that required each student too curate an entire gallery show. We had no limits on what art work we chose, we just had to create a model to visualize the space and prepare a presentation about the show.
