"If you've a taste for the finer things in life, you can't do much better than The Spire—or, Mendon na Menel if you prefer the formal name. That's all assuming you don't mind all the Aurorans glaring down their noses at you for sullying the streets with your presence."
Auroran Elves (sometimes referred to as Red Elves) almost exclusively reside on The Auruspire at Aurus I's interior pole. For millennia, they have commanded a peerless mastery over the arcane arts that make them the envy of the world. Tapping into the latent powers of the comet itself to fuel their potent dweomercraft, it is commonly held that the Aurorans are entirely unassailable on their island home. Typically, elves calling The Auruspire their home are haughty and aloof towards the other races. The Xeidoran people are an exception in this regard, though it stems more from curiosity about the artifacts they employ than any sort of warmness towards the race in general.
With their unearthly grace and fine features, elves appear hauntingly beautiful to humans and members of many other races. They are slightly shorter than humans on average, ranging from well under 5 feet tall to just over 6 feet. They are more slender than humans, weighing only 100 to 145 pounds. Males and females are about the same height, and males are only marginally heavier than females.
Elves' coloration encompasses the normal human range and also includes skin in shades of copper, bronze, and almost bluish-white, hair of green or blue, and eyes like pools of liquid gold or silver (lendelves) or precious stones (red elves). Elves have no facial and little body hair. They favor elegant clothing in bright colors, and they enjoy simply yet lovely jewelry.
Elves can live well over 700 years, giving them a broad perspective on events that might trouble the shorter-lived races more deeply. They are more often amused than excited, and more likely to be curious than greedy. They tend to remain aloof and unfazed by petty happenstance. When pursuing a goal, however, whether adventuring on a mission or learning a new skill or art, elves can be focused and relentless. They are slow to make friends and enemies, and even slower to forget them. They reply to petty insults with disdain and serious insults with vengeance.
The majority of elves that live on Aurus dwell on the Auruspire on the interior pole. Mastery of the arcane has permeated every aspect of their culture and society, including the governmental bodies that make use of their natural affinity for magic to impose law and order on those they would govern. Between trade and their capacity for spellcraft, Aurorans are able to support themselves without the need for clearing and plowing land. They are talented artisans, crafting finely worked clothes and art objects. Their contact with outsiders is usually limited, though a few elves make a good living by trading crafted items for metals (which they have no interest in mining).
Aurorans encountered outside their own lands are commonly traveling researches, scholars, or treasure hunters. The noted exception here would be the Lendelves (Wood Elves) who have severed their connection to the comet in favor of living as their ancestors did in times immemorial. These Lendelves have largely retreated into the wilds of the planet's continental mass, typically favoring heavily woodlands, where they have established their own hidden refuges within the realms of other races.
While it is rare for Aurorans to take up adventuring, it is not unheard of. Their dependence on the energy of the comet has made them hesitant to leave the unconquerable safety of the Auruspire. More often than not, when encountered beyond the Auruspire, they are escorting scholars—arcanists, archaeologists, or otherwise. Rarer circumstances do occur: elves overtaken by wanderlust, exiled, or outrunning troubled pasts. Distance from the comet results in a measure of withdrawal, however, so it is not a pleasant affair for those far from home.
Lendelves are similarly insular, though their precarious place in the wider world does force them into more frequent interactions than the Red Elves.
Your Dexterity score increases by 2.
Although Aurorans reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, the elven understanding of adulthood goes beyond physical growth to encompass worldly experience. An Auroran typically claims adulthood and an adult name around the age of 100 and can live to be 750 years old.
Aurorans value social structure and order greatly—The Auruspire is home to almost as many laws as elves. They are strongly inclined towards lawful behavior, and their isolationism has cultivated in them a strongly neutral bent.
Lendelves, in stark contrast, love freedom, variety, and self-expression, so they lean strongly towards the gentler aspects of chaos. They value and protect others' freedoms as well as their own, and they are more often good than not.
Aurorans tend to be tall and slender, averaging anywhere between 5 and over 6 feet tall. Your size is Medium.
Your base walking speed is 30 ft.
Infused with the comet's radiance in the shadow of The Spire, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern colors in darkness, only shades of gray.
You have proficiency in the Perception skill.
You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can't put you to sleep.
Aurorans don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.
You can read, speak, and write Common and Elvish.
Hailing from The Auruspire proper, you possess a keen mind and mastery of the basics of magic. Aurorans tend to be haughty isolationists, believing themselves inherently superior to the other races of the world. They hold Lendelves in higher regard than the other denizens of the planet, but only barely. Mostly, they pity the mainland elves for having turned their back on the power provided them by the comet. Though it is rare to encounter red elves outside of their island-home, it is not unheard of. Sometimes their arcane pursuits force them to undertake journeys in the name of research, while still fewer exist that heed the call of wanderlust.
Red Elves are so named because of their affinity to the comet's energies and a proclivity towards dressing and building in shades of red—the elves are not actually red, nor do they exclusively have red hair (though some do). Their eyes are often similar to precious gemstones—amethyst, emerald, ruby, sapphire, topaz, etc. Their hair color varies wildly, though it is fashionable to dye one's hair red on the isle. Auroran's have skin colors of various hues, ranging from bronze to pale, largely depending on what their family's field of work consists of.
