SVECCS aims to promote the education and involvement of veterinary students in all aspects of emergency and critical care medicine. We recognize that most graduates won’t pursue speciality education after school; however, even general practitioners should be comfortable dealing with emergency cases! "Dr. Shih graduated in Veterinary Medicine from University of Sao Paulo Brazil. He moved to the US and finished his DVM training at the University of Wisconsin. Upon graduation he worked as an Emergency veterinarian in Fox Valley Animal Referral Center WI. He completed his anesthesia residency became board certified in Anesthesia Analgesia. Was a faculty at University of Florida anesthesia service for 10 years. He decided to do a second residency in Emergency Critical Care, became board certified. After that he moved to private practice and is the owner and medical director of Dogwood Veterinary Specialty in Atlanta Georgia. His area of research includes cardio pulmonary resuscitation neuropathic pain and advanced hemodynamic monitoring." Dr. Shih will be discussing "Clots and Hypercoagulable State: The Silent Killer" at dinner on 9/14/2023.
CVF strives to include every individual no matter the reason for their attendance, whether its obedience to the Lord, to find community, to escape the chaos of vet school for an hour, to provide connections with current/former faculty, or even to just get a free meal. As a result, CVF requires no dues for members because this mission is far more important than excluding someone for monetary reasons. As an added bonus, this specific meeting will welcome a beloved faculty member (Dr. Ray) and was held on 9/6/2023. Dr. Ray’s topic was “Dinosaurs, Darwinism, and Jesus”. He discussed the evolution of the world as it relates to geology and the timeline of the development of pre-historical animals in efforts to reconcile faith and science. He specifically talked about the evolution of marine animals with respect to the animals we know today, and how God crafted all these events in both geology and biology. This meeting is always a huge hit among the student body!
ZEW is a unique opportunity for our students to learn about species that are not always covered in our curriculum. They have speakers from different industries come and speak about zoo, exotics, and wildlife. This is an industry that is sometimes harder to get into, so this club allows students opportunities and connections to this industry. ZEW on 9/15/2023 will be hosting Dr. Natalie MyIniczenko, a current veterinarian for Disney’s Animal Program! Dr. MyIniczenko is a Diplomat of the American College of Zoological Medicine, is on the AZA’s Animal Health Committee, and is the Veterinary Advisor for the Old World monkey and marine mammal taxon advisory groups (TAG). She has a Master’s Degree in veterinary pathobiology and has clinical and research interests in elasmobranch medicine, primate reproductive diseases, and hemochromatosis in a variety of species.
