What is the Under the Peachtree conference?
Under the Peachtree 2021 is a new annual initiative by the Atlanta Pod of 500 Women Scientists to highlight the excellent scientific work being done right here in the Peach State by women and people who identify as gender-minorities. We are especially excited to provide an opportunity for early career scientists and graduate students to showcase their work after a year in which networking opportunities were scarce due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Do I need to register? Is there a conference registration fee?
That's the beauty of a Twitter conference - no! Just make sure to be following our Twitter (@ATL500WomenSci) and keep an eye on the conference hashtag, #ATLWomenSci2021. There is no fee to present.
Who is eligible to present?
We welcome abstracts to present from all female-identifying or non-binary scientists in Georgia. We also encourage scientists both in an academic setting or in industry to participate. While presenting authors should identify in the above categories, co-authors do not need to identify as such.
What is a Twitter conference? / How do I present at a Twitter conference?
A Twitter conference is an opportunity for scientists to present their work to a broad range of fields and to the general public - presenters are given 10 minutes to tweet about their research, and then we provide 10 minutes for discussion and questions from the attendees. It's a great, low-stakes way to practice distilling research down into digestible bites, and it's a lot of fun!
For more about presenting, see our Presenter Guide.
How long are presentations?
Presenters are given 10 minutes to tweet 8-10 message (think of them like slides), and then allotted 10 minutes for answering questions for a total of 20 minutes.
Does my presentation need to be original to Under the Peachtree?
NO! Because this is a unique venue that blends scientific presenting with science communication, we encourage recycled posters and talks. Again, see our Presenter Guide for tips on how to craft a Twitter presentation, or feel free to contact us for help with transforming your previously-presented poster into a Twitter talk!
How can I follow along/attend?
You can either attend on Twitter via our timeline, @ATL500WomenSci, or you can follow along on our conference webpage, where we will be embedding our feed for those who do not wish to attend on Twitter.
