The Annual National Convention

The Convention is a two-day Conference organized every year in December in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the RELO at the US Embassy and the British Council.

The 1st day commonly called Pre-convention starts with a training session on Professional Development offered by the RELO to teachers of English serving in the host Region and ends up with a cultural night contest to welcome delegates from other regions.

The convention itself starts on the 2nd day with an official opening ceremony followed by a Key Note Speech on an ELT current issue approved by the Scientific Committee. After this plenary presentation, the audience is split into small groups to attend workshops on topics related to the umbrella theme. The convention ends up with the meeting of the General Assembly of ATES which renews the National Board every two years.

A total number of 425 teachers of English from different Regions participated in the last Convention. With the help of the British Council, we had the participation of five representatives of the Malian Association Teachers of English.
