ATELIER TALKIES

Atelier Talkies is the cinema wing of Atelier. This became active during the pandemic. Started with Covid Shorts, a collage of shorts films, the Talkies made two short films for ISST (Institute of Social Studies Trust), New Delhi of Atelier's theatre work with the children and working women of Kalyanuri, New Delhi: Haath Mein Kalam Leke Boley Beti Kranti & Be The Change.

At present Talkies is working on these projects:

a) Punjabiyaan Daa Baii (The Brother of Punjabis): A documentary film on the life and work of legendary Indian novelist, Jaswant Singh Kanwal, for Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi.

b) Jaita is the name of the film Talkies is developing around the most important event in the history of Sikh ethos: the creation of the "Khalsa Order". Bhai Jaita was the one who took the "sheesh" of Guru Tegh Bahadur sahab to Anandpur Sahib in 1675 and with uttermost respect handed it over to the young Gobind Rai. During the conversation with Gobind Rai, he also mentioned that the Sikhs who were accompanying Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib ran berserk when attacked. Gobind Rai was speechless. After almost 15 years, in 1699, Gobind Rai decided to create & develop a unique order, we know as "Khalsa".

The creation of the "Khalsa" wouldn't have been envisaged without the possibility of the Bhai Jaita's movement from Dilli to Anandpur Sahib beholding Guru's "sheesh". That sheesh was the legacy; that sheesh was the value system; that sheesh was the meaning of the Sikh.

c) HeerShakespeer, a story about love, written by Kuljeet Singh.

d) 292: A six episodic series based on the banned stories of Sa'adat Hasan Manto, by Kuljeet Singh.
