Dr. Rahul Sapra

Dr. Rahul Sapra has been a university professor for over 20 years. He taught at the University of Delhi and was awarded a Teaching Fellowship at Queen’s University. Currently an Associate Professor in the Department of English at Toronto Metropolitan University, Canada

He has published in the field of Early Modern studies, Shakespearean drama and films, Postcolonial Studies & Modernist cinema. His book The Limits of Orientalism: Seventeenth-Century Representations of India has been praised for “contributing to the revisionist assault on Said’s Orientalism” (Times Literary Supplement). He is the Subject Editor for the Film Section of the Routledge Encyclopedia of Modernism (https://www.rem.routledge.com/). He has conducted workshops on Shakespearean Theatre, Performance, and Film Studies in India and Canada. He has been an advocate for a high quality, accessible and affordable post-secondary education. He was the President (2019-2021) of the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA), which represents 17,000 faculty and academic librarians in 30 Faculty Associations across Ontario. In his role as President, he advocated for improved government funding of Ontario’s post-secondary institutions and for better terms and conditions of employment for faculty and academic librarians.
