Response to Philip Pullman Grimm articles
One thing Philip Pullman mentions in his article that really impress me is how he compare fairy tale/myth/legend with text and other more formal literary work. He mentions that literary is more of a personal work, a work of individuality. The author work hard to come out with words of specificity, words that show author's thought, words that belong to the author themselves. But the fairy tale goes in a completely opposite way: The words of fairy tale is general, anonymous, and belong to no specific authors. It is passed from one to the other, one generation to the next generation. Each group may have their own interpretation, adding and subtracting elements into the story. Thus folk tale belongs to no one. Making one specific version the one and official version would instead lessen the charisma of this medium. Indeed, the reason why I enjoy fairy tale so much is its simplicity and its diversity.
Character I created for Happy Prince.
Currently my plan is to create a puppet show in Unity or Unreal. I will create 3D model for my two character prince and the swallow. Any other minor characters and background would be 2D drawing(paper cut background for puppet show). The prince will be overall low poly with jem texture. The bird will have soft woven plush texture. I want to create realistic physic effect of moving puppet in the game engine.
