The island kingdom of Kastvar was founded long ago by a clan of Genasi who had banded together in search of a place to make their own, finding themselves to be outsiders in the realms of both their parents. Kastvar embodies the sense of belonging that its founders longed for and is often viewed as a place for outsiders and misfits of all sorts.
This has resulted in Kastvar's development into a colorful, loud, cultural epicenter. Many tieflings, who often struggle to find their place in their home kingdoms, flock to Kastvar to drink in the color, the music, and the beauty of the island nation alongside Dragonborn and Yuan-ti. Places like Kir'var, the capital and Port Sciathan are frequently alive with brilliant displays and brimming with life. The spaces between villages, towns, and cities however are dangerous swaths of deserts - blisteringly hot in the summer, and plunging into freezing cold during the winter nights.
Kastvar is led by the Emberore Monarchy, with their current head of state being the Sovereign and Royal Queen Flynt Emberore. However, the nation is on the edge of a transfer of power, with rumors circulating that once her son, the Prince Citrine Emberore marries she will pass the crown to him.
While Kastvar is still a monarchy in name, the Emberore family has little desire to truly enforce their rule of law outside the capital of Kir'var. This has resulted in many Kastvarians considering themselves ruled within their townships. The most egregious example of this is in Port Sciathan, the largest city in Kastvar, with a population rivaling that of Kir'var. Despite having mayoral elections every five years, Port Sciathan has, for as long as anyone can recall, truly been led by a mysterious criminal syndicate known the Col'far.
The seat of the kingdom, Kir'var is the walled oasis of the islands. It houses the Earthfire Palace, the home of the Emberore Monarchy, as well as the foremost Bard College of Tsandor, The Salar Academy of Music.
One of the largest places in Kastvar by population, Port Sciathan (affectionately called Port Sci) is the shipping hub of the region. Very few goods leave or enter Kastvar without coming through Port Sciathan.
Located on the intermediate island between mainland Avisrune and the largest island of Kastvar, Cross Bridge City, or simply "Bridge City" to locals, is the most popular stop-over point between the mainland and the islands.
Kastvar may be the smallest nation by landmass, however they reign among the wealthiest. This is largely do the luxury goods that are often shipped out through their port. Expensive wines made from fruits that only grow on the islands, rare herbs, stones, and regents, as well as their iconic and luxurious textiles all fetch high prices among Astvanor elite.
Of course, those in Kastvar with little regard for laws imposed by the monarchy and the Council of Seven trade in illicit and illegal substances as well. Blue Drake is a common name for an oft-traded hallucinogen that only grows in the deserts of Kastvar. The trade of it has been outlawed by the Council of Seven over inter-nation trading, but that has done little to stop the trade of it.
Rumors often claim that the largest shipments of Blue Drake sent from Kastvar are brought directly to Valnore.
