Despite encompassing nearly half of Tsandor, from the looming Kaztar Mountains to the fertile plains just north of Striog, when the people of Astvanor think of Avisrune they think of two things: frozen mountaintops and cool-tempered magic-users.
Founded during the Previdian occupation by both Drow and Sun Elves leaving Valnore to establish their own magical school, Avisrune is home to the Segwin-Farr College of Learned Magical Arts, one of Avisrune's most prestigious and rigorous magical institutions. Though often, it is abbreviated to simply The Colma.
Avisrune is currently led by Queen Lyressa Wrenvar, the first half-elf sovereign of the region.
Avisrune encompasses numerous biomes. When the boarders of the kingdom were drawn, it was decided that Avisrune would include Kelfema'meru, often known to outsiders as the Wildheart, or Wildheart Grove, a sacred space for followers of the goddess Caletras. However, many Avisians see Kelfema'meru as being distinct from Avisrune, to the point where it is not held to the same laws that govern Avisrune.
Further south, runoff from the Kaztar Mountains has turned the plains into a lush and fertile ground. The majority of the agriculture done on Tsandor comes from the plains of Avisrune, making it a prosperous nation.
Despite Avisrune's position as the breadbasket of Tsandor, the kingdom is most known for its elite and successful magical school, the Segwin-Farr College of Learned Magical Arts - known colloquially as "The Colma" or simply "Colma". Located in the Segwin-Farr Academic District of the capital city of Radiscune, Colma is the heart of the capital. People have traveled from across Astvanor to either attend the school, had they been invited to join their selected ranks, or attend some of the free lectures on magical history, cryptozoology, or ethical usage of arcane magics, that the college happily provides.
Colma provides education in any school of magic that a young mage or wizard may be inclined to study - however, where Solray Academy - Colma's most noted rival - focuses on the practical application of magical studies, Colma has leaned into the theoretical direction. Practical studies are still taught, though many students come to learn the theoretical and technical aspects of magic. Additionally, while Solray Academy has long-banned the teaching of necromancy, Colma happily provides lectures and courses on the theoretical mechanisms of necromancy and the ethical dilemmas that might arise. Instructors and mentors for practical necromancy can still be found at Colma. Provided one knows who to talk to.
Historically, Colma has been led by two headmasters - working in tandem with one another - ever since the school was founded nearly 900 years ago by Headmasters Maelstra Segwin and Kalesten Farr. Since then, descendants of the founders have lead Colma. Currently, the headmasters are Valeena Segwin and Traesten Farr.
Deep within the Kaztar Mountains sits the Dwarvish capital of Astvanor, Khavran. A sprawling and complex underground city, Khavran and the rest of the Kaztar Mountains are the homeland of the Dwarves.
Khavarian Dwarves trade freely within Avisrune, but do not see themselves as Avisian. They are Khavarian first, Kaztarian second. The Dwarves do not see themselves as being part of the Council of Five (or the Council of Seven), and have elected to refrain from joining any ruling councils. As Radiscune, the capital of Avisrune, sits flush to the mountains, the monarchy has often found it in their best interest to avoid disrupting them. In the recent centuries, the Dwarves have begun to intermingle more with the people of Avisrune, going as far as to establish their own trading district within Radiscune.
