Terms of Service — Ask Around

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Ask Around mobile application ("the app"), operated by Siddharth Chaula ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these Terms in full. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
1. Eligibility
You must be 18 years of age or older to use Ask Around. By creating an account, you confirm that you are at least 18. If we discover that a user is under 18, we will immediately terminate their account and delete all associated data.
2. What Ask Around Is
Ask Around is a platform that connects people who need help with small tasks or requests to people nearby who are willing to help. We are a neutral intermediary only. We do not:
- Employ helpers or requesters
- Guarantee the quality, safety, or completion of any request
- Facilitate, process, or oversee any payment between users
- Verify the identity of any user beyond their email address
All arrangements — including whether help is provided, and any payment agreed upon — are solely between the requester and the helper. Ask Around bears no responsibility for any outcome.
3. No Employment or Agency Relationship
Nothing in these Terms creates any employment, agency, partnership, contractor, or joint venture relationship between Ask Around, Siddharth Chaula, and any user. Users who help others through the app do so independently and entirely at their own discretion. Ask Around is not a staffing platform, labour marketplace, or employer of any kind.
4. User Accounts
- You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure
- You must provide accurate information when signing up
- You may not create an account on behalf of someone else or operate multiple accounts
- You may delete your account at any time via Profile → Account Settings → Delete Account
5. Payments and Transactions
- Users may set a price for their requests. Any such price is a voluntary offer between the requester and the helper
- All payments are arranged and settled directly and offline between users. Ask Around does not process, hold, or facilitate any payment
- We are not responsible for non-payment, underpayment, overpayment, fraud, or any other payment-related dispute between users
- If a payment dispute arises, it is solely between the parties involved. We strongly recommend users agree clearly on payment terms before any help is provided
6. Prohibited Activities
You agree not to use Ask Around to:
- Post, request, or facilitate anything illegal under Indian law, including but not limited to drugs, weapons, theft, trespassing, or fraud
- Post, request, or share anything of a sexual nature, including explicit content, solicitation, or escort-type requests
- Harass, threaten, stalk, or intimidate any other user
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity
- Post false or misleading requests to deceive helpers
- Use the app to scam, defraud, or extort other users
- Attempt to access another user's account or data
- Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to interact with the app
- Post spam, advertisements, or promotional content unrelated to a genuine request
Violations may result in immediate account termination without warning.
7. Your Safety Is Your Responsibility
Ask Around connects strangers. While we do our best to maintain a trustworthy community, we cannot guarantee the safety of any in-person interaction. By using Ask Around, you acknowledge and accept all risks associated with interacting with strangers, sharing information, arranging meetings, and exchanging goods, services, or money.
We strongly urge you to:
- Check the other person's profile before agreeing to meet or share information — look at their About You section, age, gender, Instagram, and LinkedIn details
- Never share your home address in a request or chat
- Be cautious when sharing your live location — only share it with people you are comfortable with
- Be careful when sharing contact numbers — once shared, you cannot take it back
- Meet in public places for in-person help where possible
- Trust your instincts — if something feels wrong, do not proceed
Scams and deception are a real possibility when dealing with strangers online. Ask Around is a tool to facilitate connections; exercising caution and good judgment is entirely your own responsibility.
8. Contact and Information Sharing Disclaimer
The app allows you to voluntarily share your phone number, contact information, social media profiles, and live location with other users. Once you share any such information, Ask Around has no control over how the other party uses it. You share this information entirely at your own risk. We strongly advise caution before sharing any personal contact details or location with someone you have not verified through their profile.
9. User Profiles and Trust
We encourage all users to fill in the optional profile fields — age, gender, bio, Instagram, and LinkedIn. This information helps other users make an informed decision about whether to trust someone before agreeing to help or be helped.
- Providing false information in your profile is a violation of these Terms
- Profile information is visible to other authenticated users of the app
- We do not verify the accuracy of any profile information provided
10. Emergency Requests
The emergency feature is intended strictly for genuine personal safety emergencies. Misuse of the emergency feature — including posting fake emergencies or using it as a prank — is a serious violation and will result in immediate account termination and may be reported to law enforcement.
11. Reports, Suspension, and Enforcement
We take reports seriously. When a request or user is reported:
- We personally review each report to determine whether it violates our policies
- We reserve the right to suspend, restrict, or terminate any account at our sole discretion while investigating suspected violations of these Terms or activity that may pose a risk to other users or the platform
- If the reported content or behaviour is found to violate these Terms, the offending account will be permanently banned
- We reserve the right to remove any request, message, or account at our discretion without prior notice if it violates these Terms
- Repeated minor violations may also result in a permanent ban

12. Content You Post
By posting a request or sending a message on Ask Around, you confirm that:
- The content is accurate and not misleading
- It does not violate any law or the rights of any third party
- You grant us a limited right to store and display the content solely for the purpose of operating the app
We do not claim ownership of your content. When you delete your account, your content is deleted from our systems.
13. Intellectual Property
The Ask Around app, including its software, design, branding, logos, and all content created by us, is owned by Siddharth Chaula and protected under applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sublicense, reverse engineer, or create derivative works from any part of the app except as expressly permitted by law. Unauthorised use of our intellectual property may result in legal action.
14. Assumption of Risk
By using Ask Around, you expressly acknowledge and accept that:
- Interactions with strangers carry inherent risks that we cannot control or eliminate
- We make no guarantee about the intentions, identity, or trustworthiness of any user
- Any meeting, exchange of money, sharing of contact details, or sharing of location you agree to through the app is undertaken entirely at your own risk
15. Disclaimer of Warranties
Ask Around is provided "as is" without any warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee that:
- The app will be available at all times or free of errors
- Any request will be fulfilled or that help will arrive
- Any user is who they say they are
- Any in-person interaction will be safe
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied.
16. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Siddharth Chaula and Ask Around shall not be liable for:
- Any harm, injury, loss, or damage arising from an in-person interaction between users
- Any financial loss arising from a payment dispute between users
- Any loss of data, income, or opportunity
- Any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app
Your use of Ask Around and any in-person meetings you arrange through it are entirely at your own risk.
17. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Siddharth Chaula and Ask Around from and against any and all claims, damages, liabilities, losses, costs, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to:
- Your use of the app
- Your interactions with other users, whether online or in person
- Your violation of these Terms
- Any content you post, share, or transmit through the app
- Any dispute between you and another user
This obligation survives termination of your account.
18. Force Majeure
We are not responsible for any delays, outages, or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to internet outages, natural disasters, governmental actions, power failures, cyberattacks, or failures of third-party services such as Supabase or Google. We will make reasonable efforts to restore service as quickly as possible in such events.
19. App Store Compliance
Use of Ask Around is also subject to the terms and policies of the platform through which you downloaded the app, including the Google Play Store and Apple App Store where applicable. In the event of a conflict between these Terms and the app store's terms, these Terms govern your relationship with us, and the app store's terms govern your relationship with the app store provider.
20. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of Ask Around shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of India.
21. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the app and delete your account.
