Disclaimer — Ask Around
Last updated: June 17, 2026
Plain Language Summary
Ask Around helps you find people nearby who can help with everyday tasks. Here is what you need to understand before you use it:
- We are a connector, not a guarantor. We connect you with strangers. We do not vet them, supervise them, or take responsibility for what they do.
- Meeting strangers carries real risk. Any physical harm that occurs during an in-person interaction arranged through this app is not our responsibility.
- We do not handle money. Any payment you make or receive happens directly between you and another user. If you are scammed or not paid, we cannot recover your money.
- The emergency feature is a community tool, not emergency services. It alerts nearby app users — it is not a substitute for calling 112 or the police.
- The app may go down. We rely on third-party infrastructure. Outages can happen. We are not liable for losses caused by downtime or data issues.
If you do not accept these realities, please do not use Ask Around.
Detailed Disclaimer
1. Nature of the Platform
Ask Around is a technology platform that facilitates connections between users who seek assistance and users willing to provide it. Ask Around and its operator, Siddharth Chaula, act solely as an intermediary. We do not:
- Employ, endorse, recommend, or vouch for any user
- Screen, verify, or background-check any user beyond email-based account creation
- Supervise, monitor, or participate in any in-person interaction between users
- Guarantee that any request will be fulfilled, or that any help offered will be provided
Any interaction that occurs between users — online or in person — is entirely between those users. Ask Around is not a party to any such interaction.
2. No Liability for Physical Harm
In-person meetings arranged through Ask Around involve interacting with strangers. Ask Around expressly disclaims all liability for any physical harm, injury, assault, harassment, or death that may occur during or as a result of an in-person interaction arranged through the platform.
Users assume full personal responsibility for their own physical safety when choosing to meet, communicate with, or assist another user. We strongly urge users to follow the safety guidelines described in our [Safety and Scam Policy](SAFETY_AND_SCAM_POLICY.md) before agreeing to any in-person interaction.
3. No Liability for Financial Loss
Ask Around does not process, hold, escrow, or facilitate any payment between users. All financial arrangements are made directly and independently between users.
Ask Around expressly disclaims all liability for:
- Non-payment by a requester after help has been provided
- Advance payment fraud where a helper disappears after receiving payment
- Any other financial dispute, scam, or loss arising between users
- Damage to or theft of any item borrowed or lent through the platform
If you suffer a financial loss through an interaction arranged on Ask Around, your recourse is with the other user or, where a crime has occurred, with law enforcement. Ask Around cannot recover funds, mediate financial disputes, or provide compensation of any kind.
4. Emergency Feature — Not a Substitute for Emergency Services
The in-app emergency feature allows users to broadcast an alert to nearby Ask Around users. It is a community assistance tool only. It is not connected to, and is not a substitute for, official emergency services.
If you are in immediate danger, call 112 (India's unified emergency number) first.
Ask Around makes no guarantee that:
- Any nearby user will see your emergency alert
- Any nearby user will respond in time or at all
- The help provided by a responding user will be sufficient or appropriate
We expressly disclaim all liability for any harm, injury, or loss that occurs as a result of reliance on the emergency feature in place of official emergency services, or due to a failure of the feature to produce a timely or effective response.
Misuse of the emergency feature — including false alerts — may expose the user to legal liability toward those who responded in good faith.
5. No Liability for App Downtime or Data Loss
Ask Around is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not guarantee that the app will be available at all times, free of errors, or that data will be preserved under all circumstances.
We expressly disclaim all liability for:
- Loss of access to the app due to outages, maintenance, or technical failures
- Loss of data, messages, or request history due to server errors, third-party failures, or cyberattacks
- Failures of third-party services we rely on, including Supabase and Google, that affect the availability or integrity of the app
- Any loss of income, opportunity, or other consequential damages arising from the app being unavailable
6. No Verification of User Identity or Content
Ask Around does not verify the real-world identity of any user. Profile information — including names, ages, genders, bios, Instagram handles, and LinkedIn profiles — is self-reported and unverified. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or honesty of any information provided by any user.
We expressly disclaim all liability for any harm arising from a user misrepresenting their identity, credentials, or intentions on the platform.
7. No Professional Advice
Nothing on Ask Around constitutes professional advice of any kind — legal, medical, financial, technical, or otherwise. If a user offers skill-based help (such as tech support, tutoring, or any other task requiring professional expertise), Ask Around makes no representation as to the competence, qualifications, or reliability of that user.
8. Third-Party Links and Services
The app may allow users to share links to external profiles such as Instagram or LinkedIn, or to open locations in Google Maps. Ask Around is not responsible for the content, practices, or policies of any third-party platform or service. Accessing any third-party service through Ask Around is at your own risk.
9. Indemnification
By using Ask Around, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Siddharth Chaula and Ask Around from any claim, loss, liability, damage, or expense (including legal fees) arising out of your use of the app, your interactions with other users, or your violation of these terms or any applicable law. This obligation survives termination of your account.
10. Governing Law
This disclaimer and all matters arising from it are governed by the laws of India. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of India.
11. Changes to This Disclaimer
We may update this disclaimer from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent version. Continued use of Ask Around after any update constitutes your acceptance of the revised disclaimer.
