Galactic Mini-Golf Contest

Mini-Golf in space !

Galactic Mini-Golf Contest is a golfing game set in space, challenging the player to complete a series of mini-golf levels while dealing with the dangers of outer space, like gravity, space debris and even black holes ! 

My role on this project

The whole game was made by me and another student as a first year school project. Everyting from the level design, the programming and the two gameplay trailer was made by us. 

We started with a small devkit that allowed to create simple levels and had a shoot mechanic.

From this, we added many features by ourselves, like zero gravity environment, User Interface, jump and speed pads, an orbital camera mode, checkpoints, moving level hazards, asteroids, black holes and many more.

Black Holes

Space is dangerous, as such we had to create various hazards like functionnal black holes that attract and deviate the trajectory of your shots. 

Physics & Gravity based gameplay

Galactic Mini-Golf Contest's Level Design allows players to use gravity and planetary attraction to their advantage to score the perfect shot ! Most levels can be finished in multiple ingenious ways using your environment.

Additionnal Levels

Galactic Mini-golf Contest started as a school project, but grew enough in our hearts for us to create another full set of 10 levels, with brand new mechanics on our free time. 

I then realized this short gameplay trailer highlighting the new features we made, such as one-way gates, icy ground, slime balls and new gravity/orbit mechanics.

Icy Slippery Ground

A special type of ground I made that lowers the adherence of the ball, making it travel longer distances without stopping. I also added an icy screen effect that progressively fills the screen when the ball is on frosted ground. 

Black Holes Visual Effects

To convey the hazardous nature of the black holes, I made a shader from scratch that highlights their attraction area.

Level Design

Using all the mechanics and features created using Unreal's blueprint, we were able to create levels that can be finished in many creative ways using the environment, so players can to try to finish each level with the less strokes by trying new stategies.

Gravity Spheres

As the game is set in space, we disabled gravity, only activating it inside bubbles scattered around the levels.

Space Slime

Floating Space Slime Balls that stop the ball in zero gravity space, allowing to retarget your shots from inside the slime ball.
