When it comes to education, I believe in a learn-by-doing approach where individuals become immersed into learning through interactive activities or exploratory elements. This approach is also something I adapt in e-learning environments as a screen should not hinder the delivery or effectiveness of what is being taught. I value the creativity in instructional design and I aim to help others move beyond standard formats to think differently about how learning can happen in digital spaces. Active learning through engagement is essential for retention and understanding. Through workshops, presentations, publications, and collaborations (some examples you can view below), I have shared how creative approaches to teaching can help create experiences that are enticing, engaging, and explorative. By building experiences that are interactive, relevant, and thoughtfully structured, I work to create learning environments that keep individuals interested and support meaningful, lasting learning.
(presented as a workshop at the International Writing Centers Association conference)
Presented this workshop to an over-capacity room of administrators, faculty, and consultants at an international conference. I transformed professional development topics into games to inspire experiential and active learning. I organized each of them as recipe cards symbolizing "recipes" for meaningful instruction.
An attendee reached out after and said: "I don't normally write people to rave about how much I loved their conference sessions...but I don't normally love conference sessions so much as I loved yours! . . . Not only was your session brilliantly executed, but you shared resources so generously--that takes extra time and planning, and I am sure I'm not the only person who was really grateful . . . And thank you for my renewed inspiration and re-sparking my "fun"damental reason for being in this work in the first place."
