My name is Ashley Cerku and I am an educator, researcher, anthropologist, and manager. I strive to teach through the learn-by-doing approach, where individuals can not only learn new things but have the opportunity to have hands-on engagement while learning. With certifications in teaching, community engagement, and digital heritage, my hope is to provide perspective on the many facets of anthropology, different cultural communities, and digital approaches to research.
My anthropological research focuses on historical photography, cultural heritage, community memory, and digital work. More specifically, I investigate the semiotic landscape of downtown main street and how digital technologies can provide a more immersive and inclusive approach to heritage preservation. My research in digital methods offers advice on how to teach the subject in classrooms as well as how community groups can use it in their own local communities.
I am also the Manager of the Oakland University Writing Center where I facilitate staff collaboration and communication about new training implements, upcoming events, center management, and professional development as well as enhance the center's visibility by sponsoring educational programming for the campus community.
As a dedicated learner, instructor, creator, and writer, I am committed to guiding others in exploring and examining their own interests, while also helping them to accomplish their goals.
