We are a group of residents who came together to better hold Newlon to account, and to help support the community within the building. The committee is elected annually by residents at the Annual General Meeting and is currently made up of the following voted in September 2022:
Chair: Ben Hopkins
Vice-Chair: Anthony Dass
Treasurer: Matthew Hughes
Secretary: Nick Mee
Committee Member: Alan Tonkin
Committee Member: Holly Simpson
Committee Member: Norris Johnson
Committee Member: Sandy Sitlani
Our priorities vary year by year, but below are the current workstreams which we are working on:
Value for Money - Reviewing Newlon's level of service against costs incurred by residents
Communal Improvements - Proposing improvements to communal areas
Parcel System - Working with Newlon to agree a new mail charter and physical parcel system to improve the reception area
Remedial Works - Reviewing and commenting on the remedial works, particularly the cladding replacement, and pushing Newlon to involve residents in the works.
Trees - Tidying up and thinning trees in the courtyard and outer boundaries to improve daylight to residents on lower levels whilst maintaining access to nature in the building
Recycling - Working with Newlon and Islington to improve recycling rates in the building and reduce barriers and costs to recycling
Anti Social Behaviour - Working with Newlon and other local organisations to reduce issues in and around the building
Arsenal Relations - Working with Arsenal to improve the resident experience on both match-days and year around.
Community & Social - Bringing residents together and fostering a feeling of community
Lease Extension - Supporting leaseholders in reducing costs of lease extension
If you are interested in being involved in the committee, votes are held annually, but it is sometimes possible to add additional members to the committee during the year. You do not need to be an expert, or be able to dedicate large amounts of time. We would love to be joined by anyone who is passionate about an issue, and are particularly looking to improve representation from tenants.
