Communicating with students is one of the most important parts of advising
Use the academic calendar to keep students up to date on important dates like add/drop, withdrawal, registration dates, the last day of classes, etc.
Use a variety of outreach methods to communicate with students reminders, events going on at the SSC, and to remind them to schedule appointments with you
Make it a point to email your students at least once every two weeks
If you have a student who tells you of an incident, begins struggling for seemingly no reason, or you think they need to be monitored, IMMEDIATELY put in a Care report.
If you have a student who is a threat to themselves, walk them to counseling services.
If you have a student who is making you feel unsafe, or threatening to harm themselves right then and there, call LUPD.
To learn more about this sensitivity training, please reach out to your supervisor.
Counseling is free for all Lander students, encourage your students to seek help if they are struggling.
