Continuing students register themselves for subsequent semesters
Students should meet with you (ideally) before their registration time slot opens to discuss what classes they should take to remain on their degree path
From there, students register themselves via the Registration and Drop/Add screen in MyLander for the classes they choose
Take time before your appointments to adequately prepare. Some advisors like to prepare advising worksheets, major guides, and more to give their students during the meeting.
Key information you should be looking for includes:
attempted and passed hours (Student Profile - Academic Transcript)
SC state scholarship eligibility (SZISSUM - Financial Aid)
athletics status (SZISSUM - Athlete)
incomplete major and general education requirements (Student Profile - Degree Evaluation)
course prerequisites (Student Profile - Degree Evaluation | Course Catalog)
adjustments to expected graduation date (Student Profile - Degree Evaluation | Major Guide)
holds preventing student registration (Student Profile - Holds | SOAHOLD)
Always be sure to keep a copy (digitally or printed) of the material you share during your meetings. This will make updating your SZANOTES on the student much easier.
Familiarize yourself with the student perspective of registration in case they have questions
These videos can also be sent to students to help them as they register
The SSC hosts Registration Refresher workshops to walk students through the process as well
