About Us

Presented by Kaylee Hasek, Emma Kealey, and Claudia Magana

Between our sixteen group members, we covered a broad spectrum of University of Iowa students. Majors of all types, like Business, Education, and Engineering, took on the challenge of improving lives in Kansas City. Throughout our trip, we volunteered with five organizations: Literacy KC, Lazarus Ministries, YMCA, Avenue of Life, and Harvesters. Each non-profit addressed a different issue families in poverty may face. We assisted in Head Start and after school programs with the YMCA. We prepared and staffed two meals at Lazarus Ministries, and we helped sort food that would be distributed to low income students as food for the week. Through these opportunities, we were able to impact the lives of many underprivileged families in their community.
