Summer 2025 Training
Returning Runners
Summer practice will begin Monday, June 2. If you just finished track season, you have practice Monday through Friday at 7:30 a.m. Meet at the distance shed at the track at Arvada West. If you ran cross country last year but didn't run track, Coach wants you to attend practice on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays so that you can get back into shape without over doing it.
New Runners
New runners will begin practice on Monday, June 2, and have practice on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 7:30 a.m. Meet at the Arvada West track. New runners must be able to run at least 3 miles in order to attend summer training.
Practice usually lasts about 1 - 1 ½ hours, but can go longer - depends on the workout. Athletes are expected to be at practice for its entirety. Please pick up your athlete in a timely manner.
We have a small locking shed at the track where athletes will be able to leave their backpacks and personal items during practice.
Summer training is free of charge, but you must turn in your signed permission slip in order to participate. Wear appropriate running attire and bring water.
If you would like to receive emails or information regarding Cross Country, please send an email to della.moore@jeffco.k12.co.us with your contact information - include name, gender, grade, and email address.
The training load increases as the runners progress in their fitness so it is recommended that they attend daily. A few reasons why we have summer training:
Cross country is a team sport and summer training is the best time to begin to build a cohesive team.
The runners will get much more out of the season if they go into it really fit. The season is too short to get in great shape.
Incoming freshmen get to start the school year at a new school already knowing lots of Arvada West students. This makes the transition much easier.
Running is a weight bearing sport where repetitive motion injuries do sometimes occur. Getting into shape during the summer greatly reduces the risk of injury during the season.
Attending summer practice gives the athletes something fun and positive to focus on during the summer.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
