Summer Training
Summer Training
In order to participate in the pre-season training, you must bring a signed to the first day of training. You will not be allowed to run without this signed form.
Cross Country summer training will begin Tuesday, May 28 and run until the start of the season on Monday, August 12. We meet at the Arvada West track Monday through Friday (except July 4 and 5) at 7:30 a.m. We are usually done between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. - depends on the day's workout. It is free of charge, but you must turn in your Summer Permission Slip in order to participate. Wear appropriate running attire and bring water.
The training load increases as the runners progress in their fitness so it is recommended that they attend daily. A few reasons why we have summer training:
Cross country is a team sport and summer training is the best time to begin to build a cohesive team.
The runners will get much more out of the season if they go into it really fit. The season is too short to get in great shape.
Incoming freshmen get to start the school year at a new school already knowing lots of Arvada West students. This makes the transition much easier.
Running is a weight bearing sport where repetitive motion injuries do sometimes occur. Getting into shape during the summer greatly reduces the risk of injury during the season.
Attending summer practice gives the athletes something fun and positive to focus on during the summer.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
Please let us know if you have any questions.
