This book, The Rare, Tiny Flower, was written by Kitty O'Meara and illustrated by Quim Torres.
This timely and powerful story shows us how easily our own point-of-view can keep us from seeing the world through others' eyes. It takes just one little girl in this brilliant and colorful book to show the leaders of the world that they can open their viewpoints to get along with others.
As an elementary school teacher, I particularly enjoyed that a small child was the hero of this story, simply because her innocence enabled her to have an open mind. Children can teach us adults so many important lessons as they learn and experience on their own, as their point of view has not yet been so narrowed. The Tiny, Rare Flower is a simple yet incredibly powerful analogy that teaches humility, empathy, and acceptance of others' cultures and viewpoints.
This book, Sweet People Are Everywhere, was written by Alice Walker and illustrated by Quim Torres.
"I want children reading this to become familiar with the idea that other places exist," writes author Alice Walker. Are you familiar with other countries and their cultures? This sweet book takes us through 37 different places around the world. Do you know them all?
I enjoyed reading Sweet People Are Everywhere because it reminds us that there truly are good, kind people in all parts of the world. We tend to group people together with general labels, and sometimes those groups get bad reputations. But we have to remember that everyone is unique, and that there really are SWEET PEOPLE EVERYWHERE!
This book was written and illustrated by Doro Globus and Rose Blake.
Have you ever been to an art exhibition and wondered how it all got there? This wonderful nonfiction book details the process of creating a great exhibition from start to finish.
Making a Great Exhibition is perfect for any age to learn about all of the people and work it takes to put together a great art show. It is easy to follow and understand, has colorful and fun illustrations, and has many sidebar explanations to stop and read. I especially like that it pays tribute to all the behind-the-scenes specialists.
