The Bristol-based Arts Opportunity Theatre ran from 1981-1988. It was a registered charity, funded mainly by the Manpower Services Commission and supported by Bristol City Council, South West Arts and the Commission For Racial Equality.
It was founded by Reynold Duncan and Yvonne Deutschman, and trained youngsters in various aspects of the Performing Arts and Affiliated Skills. These included drama, dance, music, stage management, lighting, sound engineering, photography, video-editing, costume design and making, creative and journalistic writing, graphic design, electrical and electronic engineering, office administration, book-keeping and computing skills.
The shows highlighted the experiences of the Caribbean community living in 1980s inner-city Britain.
This website aims to give a taste of AOT and the shows it produced. We would also like to preserve any surviving material, at least in digital form for future generations to enjoy.
