Gabrielle Johnson

Gabby’s piece works to represent the multifaceted experiences of women in society. Using thick markers, she was able to create various dimensional lines with shades of pink to create a moving expression of the female form.

the divine feminine

This piece seeks to advocate for freedom of women’s bodies, and to support the idea that women have the rights to their own bodies. I chose to use repetitive line work with neutral pink and brown colors to create a shape that resembles both tree rings, and the female form to symbolize nourishment and longevity. Women’s needs are too often dismissed in healthcare, schools, and the workplace, creating an overall lack of education and care for women’s inequality. Violence against women also remains a huge problem in the world today, and I hope that this piece can inspire healing from lived experiences to ultimately empower women to take back ownership of their bodies.
