Papier mache originates from China, the inventors of paper itself. They used papier mache to make helmets of all things, which they toughened by many layers of lacquer.
Papier Mache (French for “chewed paper”) is believed to have got its name from French workers in London papier mache shops who did just that!

Steps to Papier-mâché (pap-yay mash-ay)
Tear the newspaper into small strips. Estimate the amount you need and tear the strips first before getting your fingers sticky with glue.
Prepare the glue mix (1 cup water + 1 cup white glue). Stir the glue and water gently with your fingers.
Dip the paper strips one at a time in the glue mix and stick on your sculpture armature. Remove excess glue with your fingers.
Check that the sculpture surface is covered.
