Lesson 1 & 2:
Newspapers - 2 sheets per artist (1 for bird body armature and 1 for tearing into strips)
Masking tape - 1 roll per artist - collect back after the lesson to use in next class
Lesson 2: Continue shaping newspaper for the bird's body, make and attach the wing.
1 cardboard piece per artist to draw and cut to attach to bird as wings
Pencil - to draw shape of wing before cutting.
Scissors - collect back after the lesson to use in next class
Masking tape - collect back after the lesson to use in next class

Plastic container with glue and water mix (1-to-1).

ARTIST INSPIRATION: Fernando Botero
Located outside UOB Plaza
Made entirely of bronze, this sculpture by the renowned Colombian artist Fernando Botero.
Installed at the Singapore River in 1990.
The sculpture represents peace, serenity and joy.
Botero also has other sculptures at the St Regis Hotel and Parkview Square.
Lesson Outline
Lesson 1: Introduction to artist inspiration and Surrealism. Shape the newspaper for the bird's body. Tape with masking tape.
Lesson 2: Continue shaping newspaper for the bird's body. Make the wing with cardboard. Attach the body to the wing. Tear and prep newspaper strips for next lesson.
Lesson 3:
Ensure there's enough newspaper strips before getting your fingers sticky in the glue mix.
Plastic container - fill with glue and water mix (1-to-1) for first layer of paper mache.
Apply glue mix on torn newspaper strips one piece at a time and apply immediately. Do not put strips in glue mix. It will disintegrate.
Make sure paper is applied flat in all areas. Use smaller piece of paper for corners or joint areas.
Close the glue container and return after class.
Lesson 4: Apply 2nd layer of paper mache - newspaper strips.
Lesson 5 & 6: Paint with acrylic paint.
