The Color studio (ART 113) explores the theory and application of color as a broad resource for artists and designers. Topics include the history of color theory, subjective color, symbolic color, additive and subtractive color theory, the physics of light, the physiology of the eye, local/reflective color, relational color (Albers), compositional strategies, and the use of color in new media and commercial design. Using the knowledge and skills acquired in this class equips the student with a personal expressive vocabulary, an appreciation for diverse cultural manifestions of color, and the tools for professional practice.
