The Cross Country ‘Runner of the Year’ Banquet we do is a very special event. This years banquet was cancelled, but we still honored the areas runners with a plaque for their hard working during this crazy season. Our President — Russ Colona — is the Cross Country coach at EAWR HS, and he noticed that all these other sports have big banquets after their seasons. So we started doing a Cross Country Banquet in December to recognize the high school runners in the area. We are in our 19th year and look forward to it every cross country season.
We have 15 of schools from the area that we invite to the banquet. Each coach picks one boy and one girl that will win the “Alton Road Runners Runner of the Year” award for their school. The banquet is held at the Bluff City Grill in Alton, IL and it a great night of celebration for these amazing athletes. There is a dinner at 6pm before the awards are given out and each winner goes home with a special gift from First to the Finish who is one of our great sponsors for the event. We can’t thank them enough for everything they do. We are looking forward to this years banquet.
