Wayne Huey was born in San Francisco's Chinatown and spent much of his youth between Chinatown and North Beach. His philosophy centers around sharing his tai chi experience and empowering others to incorporate the internal system into their daily lives independently.
He was introduced to Yang Style Long Form Tai Chi from his college instructor, Terry Hall, who taught Tai Chi at City College of San Francisco. Terry played a pivotal role in showing Wayne that Tai Chi is not only a graceful practice and about making a mind-body connection, but it is also rooted in a philosophy that influences everyday life. Terry also introduced Wayne to the internal & stillness exercise, the Arm Bridge. Through Terry, Wayne had the opportunity to study with Grandmaster William Chin at the Golden Gate Park Tai Chi Group. Sifu Chin made a lasting impact on Wayne by emphasizing the importance of “Being Human” and leading a life of fitness and good health.
Teacher Jason C. introduced Wayne to the internal system of Tai Chi, highlighting the importance of energy flow, emptiness, and the balance of yin and yang in practice. His teachings emphasized living a harmonious life, deeply connected to Tai Chi principles and being in tune with nature.
Wayne traveled to Taiwan to begin training with Sifu Chen, who taught him Yang Style Tai Chi 37 Movements, loosening exercises, basic two-person drills, and gentle push hands.
Push hands practice has nothing to do with actual “pushing”, but rather a focus on internal connection & listening to energy development.
Wayne credits Sifu Chen with demonstrating the power of softness in overcoming force, as well as the significance of Song (relaxation) and Rooting in the internal Tai Chi system.
Wayne currently offers in-person classes in San Francisco and conducts Zoom classes, allowing him to share internal system training with a broader audience.
