Because TWR is being paid for with a grant, the state is collecting data to show the effectiveness of the training opportunity by showing growth in student writing. The rubric scores are not designed to connect to student grades.
When delivering the pretest and post-test, we are asking that all grades 3-12 use the prompt as it is provided on both assessments. Thank you again for participating in this professional learning and partnership with DESE.
*To score the rubric, teachers should take an average of the scores made for each category and provide an overall score of 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 (e.g. If a student made a 3, 2, 2, & 1, you would take the sum of scores, 8, and divide it by the number of categories, 4, giving the student a score of 2). Round a score up or down to the nearest whole number.
**In addition to the TWR Student Tracker, DESE has created an Automatic Student Tracker. This sheet can be copied and used for your personal use. This tracker will automatically calculate the total number of students assessed and count the number of students in each scoring range.
