Our first visit to the Arivaca area was over 30 years ago in spring 1993, and this unique place has been in our hearts ever since.
It took 23 years of visits before we found our perfect home in 2016, which as luck would have it, is just a few blocks from the dancehall!
Emily's brother David Bishton has been an integral part of the team since the beginning, sharing his knowledge and experience from over 45 years as an architect. His pro-bono consulting in person and via phone/email during the whole restoration process was a priceless gift!
The knowledge, skill, and creative thinking of Tom Lewis and Jerry Dunson, not to mention hundreds of hours of hard work, has made them both valuable members of the team, doing a multitude of carpentry projects, roof and ceiling repairs, drainage, and much, much more! We estimate that Tom has actually laid a hand on almost every piece of wood on the property!
Building new garage doors out of the dancehall's old redwood partition walls
Replacing the decayed beam and support posts of the west side covered porch
Rudy Morales, working alone or with his great crew of Seb, Dean, Josh, Dustin, and AJ, have done tremendous work with multiple concrete and framing projects as well as a variety of other important repairs. His creativity and sound advice have been vital to navigating many of the surprises we've found along the way. He and Jerry and Ezra Turney also created the ironwork and installed two of the old wagon wheels that came with the property onto the low walls at the front entry!
In addition to the team members above, there have been over 35 individuals from Arivaca who worked with us to restore the dancehall, whether for a day, a week, or during the whole adventure! In addition, 4 companies from Tuscon have done major projects such as gutters & downspouts, insulation, stage curtains and drapes, and piano moving. The wonderful outcome is a result of the dedication of everyone involved in order to overcome all the surprises, obstacles, and other challenges of this project:
